The San Antonio Spurs kicked off the new week of the NBA regular-season schedule with an emphatic 145-120 win over the Houston Rockets on March 9, 2026, at Frost Bank Center.
With the lopsided victory, San Antonio extended its winning streak to four games and has lost only once in its last 16 games to remain the hottest squad in the Western Conference.
However, the Spurs had to endure a scorching start from the duo of Kevin Durant and Amen Thompson, who shouldered most of the Rockets’ offensive load in the first 12 minutes of action.
Durant fueled Houston’s efficient start with consecutive perimeter jumpers from the right elbow, backstopped by Thompson’s relentlessness in attacking San Antonio’s lane.
The one-two punch’s offensive clinic put Houston in the driver’s seat early, but San Antonio quickly responded with a massive second-quarter turnaround.
After struggling to cash in from downtown, the Spurs suddenly caught fire midway through the frame, torching the Rockets behind the three-point resurgence of De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Keldon Johnson.
The Spurs’ shooting party put them ahead by 12 points at halftime, 69-57, before Victor Wembanyama took over in the second half and pushed San Antonio’s lead to as much as 30 points in the fourth quarter.
It was a balanced two-way effort for the Spurs as the bench mob protected its double-digit lead, despite Wembanyama taking a breather on the sidelines and Fox already being shut down by the coaching staff.
Houston made a mini-run that trimmed its deficit to just 16 points, led by Durant, but a San Antonio counterattack led by Dylan Harper ballooned the cushion back to 22 points, forcing Rockets head coach Ime Udoka to pull his starters with five minutes still remaining in the game.
Wembanyama led another San Antonio assault with an all-around effort of 29 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting from the field, along with eight rebounds, four blocks, two steals, and one assist.
Castle also picked up where he left off, delivering 23 points, five assists, and three rebounds, while Fox and Johnson chipped in 20 points apiece.
On the other hand, Durant and Thompson combined for 46 points for Houston, but their offensive brilliance was not enough to match San Antonio’s demoralizing, balanced attack.
San Antonio aims for its 16th win in 17 games on March 11, 2026, when it squares off against the returning Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics, while Houston seeks to bounce back on the same date against the Toronto Raptors.
