The San Antonio Spurs officially added former NBA champion Rashard Lewis to their coaching staff, the team confirmed on Aug. 18, 2025.
After serving as a guest assistant coach during the NBA Summer League, Lewis was signed to join the Spurs’ player development coaching pool.
A two-time NBA All-Star, Lewis won an NBA title in 2013 with the Miami Heat alongside LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh.
During his 16-year NBA career, Lewis reached the Finals twice and played for the Seattle SuperSonics, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards, and Miami Heat.
He gained attention in 2009 when he helped the Magic eliminate James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Playing as a stretch-four, Lewis created matchup problems during an era still dominated by post play.
His floor-spacing ability was key in Orlando’s run to the 2009 NBA Finals, where they fell to the Los Angeles Lakers led by the late Kobe Bryant.
Lewis bounced back four years later with the Heat, contributing to their comeback series win over the Spurs’ trio of Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Tim Duncan.
He retired from the NBA after the 2014 season and later played in the BIG3 3×3 league.
His only prior coaching experience was with the Detroit Pistons, where he served as an assistant coach from 2022 to 2023.
That role paved the way for his addition to the Spurs’ staff this offseason.
