Despite already securing a 2025–2026 NBA playoff berth, the San Antonio Spurs still showed their hunger to win, thrashing the Miami Heat, 136-111, to extend their regular-season winning streak to six games.
With the victory, the Spurs boosted their chances of taking over the Oklahoma City Thunder’s No. 1 spot in the Western Conference and now trail by only three wins to match the defending champions’ win-loss record.
Fresh off a lopsided win over the Indiana Pacers at home, San Antonio stuck to its game plan on the road, attacking Miami’s interior through the post prowess of Most Valuable Player, or MVP, candidate Victor Wembanyama.
The all-around superstar set the tone for the Spurs, leading them to a seven-point lead entering the second quarter, and spearheaded a massive 14-2 rally after checking in midway through the period.
As a result of his two-way dominance, San Antonio held a commanding 18-point advantage at the half while limiting the Heat to just 35% shooting from the field during the second quarter.
Although Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo had decent offensive starts in the third quarter, Wembanyama played spoiler in the crucial five-minute window with a personal 7-0 run, backstopped by Keldon Johnson and Dylan Harper’s shooting efficiency that ballooned San Antonio’s biggest lead of the game to as much as 30 points.
There was nothing Miami could do after the three-headed monster continued to convert buckets, forcing Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra to call back-to-back emergency timeouts when his wards failed to bury several wide-open 3-point attempts.
The Heat executed a series of pin-down plays to free up Herro at the elbows, but the superstar shooting guard ran out of gas, missing three of his four attempts from downtown.
Miami then threw in the towel with seven minutes still remaining in the game, signaling surrender as Spoelstra decided to give Adebayo, Herro, Andrew Wiggins and Norman Powell a breather.
Wembanyama was nothing short of spectacular on the road after tallying another double-double of 26 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks, while the 1-2 punch of Harper and Johnson added 21 points apiece.
Stephon Castle also remained a solid contributor for the Spurs, chipping in 19 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals, while De’Aaron Fox delivered 14 points and six assists.
The Spurs will aim for a seventh straight NBA win on March 26, 2026, against the banged-up Memphis Grizzlies, while Miami seeks to rebound on the same date against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
