FUTSAL teams from San Carlos City and Sagay City, Negros Occidental captured the title in the 2019 Batang Pinoy Visayas Qualifier at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) gym, March 3.
San Carlos City bagged the gold medal in girls U-15 futsal after pounding Cebu Province in a scintillating finals encounter, 2-1.
Sagay City also took home the crown in the boys U-15 futsal event after defeating Pontevedra, 7-6, in a tightly contested gold medal clash.
Negros Occidental, on the other hand, salvaged the crown in the boys U-13 category.
In lawn tennis, the Iloilo City pair of Althea Rose Martirez and Ma. Petria Abigail Aguirre grabbed two gold medals after blasting Cebu City, 4-6, 7-6, 10-7, in the finals. Nikhel Nowlakha and Jeff Jimenea settled for silver in the boys event.
After a neck-and-neck battle in basketball boys, Bacolod City survived the Cebu Province quintet during their finals game, at the ISC covered gym, 73-70.
Represented by Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS), John Ordas led the way with 19 points, Nathan Jundana added 18 markers, while Mike Estelloso contributed 14 markers for the winning team.
The Negros cagers were trailing in the first three cantos of the ball game, but Estelloso and Jundana fired back-to-back shots to tie the game at 70-all.
The visiting Cebuanos got the lead back after a baseline jumper, but Ordas served as the hero of the game, converting the game-winning shot for the Negrenses.
Trained by head coach Dexter Dy, the team is comprised of Heinzy Gabriel Demisana, Adrielle Binguan, John Ray Castiller, Marvin delos Santos, Dylan Despi, Josh Dignadice, CJ Juguan, and Rafael Ledesma.
