After spending the majority of the offseason finding a team to play with, Russell Westbrook will finally have a new home.
On Oct. 16, 2025, ESPN’s veteran NBA insider Shams Charania confirmed that the superstar point guard has agreed to a deal with the Sacramento Kings and is good to go once their NBA regular season begins on Oct. 23 against Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns.
According to multiple reports, Westbrook will be inking a one-year veteran minimum contract amounting to USD 3.6 million.
The former 2016–2017 NBA Most Valuable Player became one of the top available free agents in the player market when he declined his USD 3.47 million player option with the Denver Nuggets.
Last June, Westbrook officially became a free agent for the third time in his NBA career, but several teams showed no interest in signing the triple-double machine.
However, rumors of Westbrook moving overseas or retiring early were immediately shut down after the retooled Sacramento squad decided to keep him for the upcoming NBA season.
Westbrook still showed his all-around value last season in Denver when he averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds in 75 games.
Despite a shooting dip in the playoffs, Westbrook still averaged double digits in scoring against the Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder, tallying 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 13 postseason games.
With the addition of Westbrook late in the offseason, Sacramento just received a huge backcourt boost alongside defensive menace Dennis Schroder, who was acquired from the Detroit Pistons.
Westbrook will be forming a talented and veteran-laden roster with DeMar DeRozan, Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, Keegan Murray, Malik Monk, and Doug McDermott.
Still mentoring the Western Conference squad is Doug Christie, a former Sacramento wingman, while Filipino basketball legend Jimmy Alapag serves as a player development coach.
