Roxas City barangays surrender 51 loose firearms

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A total of 51 unlicensed firearms have been surrendered by barangay officials to the Roxas City Police Station in connection with Police Regional Office 6’s Project RTT, or Restrict, Track and Turn-in, and Project CAPeace-Tawhayan.

Lt. Col. Rogelio Tomagtang Jr., Roxas City police chief, said in a media interview that the accomplishment involved all 47 barangays in the city, with some barangays contributing more than one surrendered firearm.

Of the 51 firearms, 50 were short firearms consisting of 22 homemade 12-gauge shotguns, 20 homemade .38-caliber revolvers, seven homemade .22-caliber revolvers and one homemade .40-caliber pistol.

One long firearm, a homemade .22-caliber rifle, was also surrendered.

Tomagtang emphasized the importance of continued cooperation among barangay officials and residents in voluntarily turning over loose firearms to help promote peace and public safety in communities.

Last week, around 246 loose firearms and 30 explosives were reported surrendered through barangay officials in different municipalities since the Capiz Police Provincial Office launched its CAPeace-Tawhayan project from July 28 to Sept. 15, 2026.

Based on data released by the Capiz PPO, 192 of the surrendered weapons were short firearms, while 54 were long firearms.

The CPPO release, however, separately reported that 36 explosives were surrendered to authorities in support of CAPeace-Tawhayan and Tokhang Kontra Armas-Luthang, or TKAL, creating a discrepancy in the reported number of explosives.

Col. David L. Cachumbo Jr., provincial director of the Capiz Police Provincial Office, thanked barangay officials, particularly punong barangay, and the community for their continued support of the program.

He said CAPeace-Tawhayan aims to encourage individuals possessing loose firearms to voluntarily surrender them to the Capiz Police Provincial Office.

The initiative reflects the CPPO’s efforts to strengthen its partnership with communities through programs aimed at promoting public safety, preventing firearm-related incidents and fostering a more peaceful and secure environment for Capizeños.
