What is going on, Mr. Jones?
Two months after announcing his retirement from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Jon Jones is back in the spotlight after hinting at a possible comeback fight, as announced on Aug. 19, 2025.
Jones made headlines when he revealed that the UFC had discussed with former President Donald Trump the possibility of staging a fight night event as part of the White House’s preparations for the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding next year.
“Despite the odds, I’m still training and optimistic about the possibility of being part of the White House event,” Jones posted on his official X account.
Jones and his camp have already initiated his return by re-entering the UFC drug testing pool, though his official reinstatement remains subject to UFC President Dana White’s approval.
White, however, expressed strong skepticism about Jones’ return in a recent press release.
“So I already said that I don’t trust him,” White said.
“I don’t talk to him either. I haven’t talked to him at all. If I had to make odds, it’s a billion-to-one that I put Jon Jones on the White House card.”
The UFC president’s remarks follow Jones’ latest run-in with the law.
Jones was charged with a misdemeanor last June for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident.
Police reports stated that on Feb. 21, 2025, Jones fled a car crash in which a heavily intoxicated woman was found in the passenger seat.
Albuquerque police added that the woman had no clothing from the waist down and that Jones was reportedly driving the vehicle involved in the crash.
However, Jones’ attorney, Christopher Dodd, denied those claims, stating that Jones was never at the scene and was not the driver.
Dodd alleged that the woman made false accusations to avoid being arrested.
Following the incident, White officially scrapped the planned title unification bout between Jones and Tom Aspinall.
A day after Jones’ retirement, White elevated Aspinall to undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, stripping Jones of the title he had held for three years.
