BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The skeletal remains of an 8-year-old girl were found in Hacienda Alicia, Barangay 5, Isabela, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday, three months after she went missing at the height of Typhoon “Tino” in November last year.
Police said residents and sugarcane workers discovered the remains in a sugarcane field earlier that morning.
The girl was positively identified by her grandmother through the clothes and bracelet found with the remains.
The victim, a Grade 3 pupil, was swept away by flash floods during the typhoon’s onslaught on Nov. 4, 2025.
Police said the remains have been turned over to the family.
Last month, authorities also recovered the remains of a 59-year-old man from Moises Padilla town and a 2-year-old boy in Isabela town and La Castellana, respectively.
The victims were among about 40 people reported missing on Negros Island after Typhoon “Tino” battered Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental, leaving more than 90 people dead.
Typhoon “Tino” triggered widespread flooding and landslides across the island, displacing thousands of residents and prompting prolonged search-and-retrieval operations by police, soldiers, and disaster-response teams.
