PSA surveys Western Visayas wages, labor conditions
ILOILO CITY — The Philippine Statistics Authority will survey 463 establishments across Western Visayas beginning Sept. 14, 2026, to gather updated data on occupational wages, employment conditions, workplace safety, training, and productivity.
The 2026 Occupational Wages Survey and 2026 Integrated Survey on Labor and Employment will cover sample establishments in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Iloilo City.
The surveys are significant for workers and businesses because their results will help guide wage-setting, employment policies, workplace safety programs, and industrial relations initiatives.
Reliable labor data can also help policymakers determine whether wages and workplace programs are responding to actual conditions faced by employees and employers across industries.
The Occupational Wages Survey, or OWS, is designed to generate wage statistics used in formulating policies on wage and salary administration.
Its results support wage determination, price policy formulation, and collective bargaining negotiations.
The survey will generate data on the Average Monthly Occupational Wage Rates of Selected Occupations.
The indicator is among the statistical variables the Philippine government has committed to regularly produce and disseminate under the International Monetary Fund’s Special Data Dissemination Standard.
The SDDS serves as a benchmark for IMF member countries in publishing timely, comprehensive, and reliable economic and financial statistics.
For the 2026 OWS, the PSA will collect information on establishment characteristics, including main economic activity, major products or services, legal and economic organization, business registration, and registered name and address.
The agency will also gather data on employment by worker classification.
Information will be collected on the total basic pay and allowances of full-time, time-rated workers across major occupational groups.
The survey will likewise gather information on bonuses received by workers.
Meanwhile, the 2026 Integrated Survey on Labor and Employment, or ISLE, will produce an integrated dataset covering several aspects of employment and working conditions.
The survey will examine the employment of specific worker groups, occupational shortages and surpluses, and job-related training.
It will also collect information on occupational safety and health practices, occupational injuries and diseases, and productivity improvement and gainsharing practices.
The results are intended to support government policies and programs on employment, working conditions, and industrial relations.
ISLE data will also contribute to monitoring Sustainable Development Goal 8, which calls for sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.
The findings are also expected to provide information for studies on industry trends and labor practices and help assess the country’s progress toward achieving decent work.
For the 2026 ISLE, the PSA will gather establishment characteristics as well as employment data by worker groups and outsourcing arrangements.
The agency will collect information on occupational shortages and surpluses and job-related training provided to workers.
The survey will also cover occupational safety and health policies and practices, occupational injuries and diseases, and productivity improvement programs and gainsharing practices.
Data collection for both nationwide establishment surveys will continue until October 2026.
The PSA expects to release the survey results in August 2027.
The agency urged all sampled establishments to participate and provide accurate and truthful information, saying reliable responses are needed to support data-driven labor and development policies and programs.
