GCash users can buy the company’s shares in the app
By Francis Allan L. Angelo
Filipinos who use GCash to pay bills and send money will be able to buy a piece of the company from the same app next month, after the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) approved Mynt’s initial public offering (IPO) and said subscriptions would run through GStocks.
The PSE said making the offering available through GStocks in the GCash app could increase participation from retail investors. Local small investors may also subscribe through the exchange’s PSE EASy platform.
The PSE approved the application of Mynt, the operator of GCash, to list its common shares on the PSE Main Board under the trading symbol GCASH.
“This highly anticipated IPO is poised to set the record as the largest public offering in PSE history,” PSE President and CEO Ramon S. Monzon said in a statement. He added that the listing could help pave the way for more fintech and digital economy companies to raise capital through the equities market.
The offering covers up to 8.03 billion common shares, consisting of up to 1.61 billion primary shares and 6.42 billion secondary shares, with an overallotment option of up to 1.20 billion additional secondary shares.
The shares will be offered at a maximum price of PHP 10 each, which values the base offering at up to PHP 80.3 billion. The final offer price is expected to be set on Oct. 1 following the book-building exercise.
The public offer period is scheduled from Oct. 6 to 12, and the tentative listing date is Oct. 20.
Proceeds from the primary shares will be used for digital financial services growth initiatives, product development, and general corporate purposes, according to the PSE listing notice.
Mynt has been expanding GCash beyond digital payments into savings, investments, lending, insurance, and other financial services.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved the company’s registration statement earlier in September.
The SEC allowed a reduced minimum public float of 12%, citing Mynt’s expected initial market capitalization of approximately PHP 668.96 billion, which is above the threshold under the commission’s new rules for exceptionally large issuers.
The PSE said it hopes Mynt’s debut will encourage other fintech and digital businesses to consider the equities market as a source of capital.
