PSA Iloilo orients barangay secretaries on Civil Registration

THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Iloilo Provincial Statistical Office (IPSO)conducted Orientations on Civil Registration for barangay secretaries in Iloilo City per district.

The 180 barangays in seven districts of Iloilo City participated in the activities of PSA Iloilo.

The objective of the activity is to orient the barangay secretaries about the Barangay Civil Registration System (BCRS) and their duties and responsibilities under Section 394 of Republic Act 7160 (Local Government Code), specifically to assist the municipal civil registrar in the registration of births, deaths, and marriages.

The BCRS is a strategy developed by the PSA to make Civil Registration Services available to the grassroots level in line with the CRVS Decade goal to “get everyone in the picture”.

The activity alsotrained the the participants on how to fill-up civil registration vital document such as birth certificate. It also disseminated the generated data on vital statistics of Iloilo City, gave latest updates (Memorandum Circular) including the Data Privacy Act, and answered the queries on the Civil Registration issues and concerns.

The activity also disseminated salient points of RA 1055 (Philippine Identification Act)and the PhilSys ID.

The districts were clustered into five and the orientation for every cluster was conducted on different days.

The first cluster which composed of barangay secretaries from Arevalo and Mandurriao districts were scheduled last July 25, 2019 and it has 29 attendees. The second was composed of barangay secretaries of Lapuz and La Paz districts and their scheduled was on August 8, 2019 with 37 attendees.

The third orientation which was held on August 29, 2019 was attended by the group of barangay secretaries of Molo district with a total of 25 attendees. The fourth orientation was held last September 17, 2019 with 46 total of participants from the City Proper district. Lastly, the orientation for Jaro district is scheduled this coming 26^th of September 2019.

PSA Iloilo headed by PSO Nelida C. Amolar thanked the participants for the support and participation of the barangay secretaries of Iloilo City. The office is planning to conduct the same activity for the barangay chairman and/or officials in Iloilo City in the future and is looking forward for the same support and cooperation.
