BACOLOD CITY — The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) honored the bravery, patriotism, and ultimate sacrifice of the 44 Special Action Force members (SAF 44) who lost their lives in the line of duty while pursuing peace and security for the Filipino people.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, together with the 6th SAF Battalion and officers and personnel of the regional office, led the wreath-laying ceremony at the PRO-NIR Administrative Building inside Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Barangay Estefania during the observance of the National Day of Remembrance for the Heroic Sacrifice of the SAF 44 on Sunday.
In his message, Ibay recalled that 11 years ago in Mamasapano, the 44 SAF members answered the highest call of duty, choosing courage over comfort, mission over self, and service over personal safety.
He said their sacrifice was a conscious act of valor rooted in discipline, faith, and unwavering commitment to the Filipino people, a legacy that reshaped institutions and strengthened national resolve.
Ibay said the story of the SAF 44 serves as a reminder that the police uniform is not merely a symbol of authority but a covenant of service and a pledge to stand firm when the nation calls.
As a newly created region, PRO-NIR said the commemoration goes beyond ritual, serving as a renewal of purpose and a reminder that peace demands vigilance, leadership requires moral courage, and public trust is earned through sacrifice.
The regional office also expressed gratitude to the families of the SAF 44, assuring them that the legacy of their loved ones continues through the mission, reforms, and dedication of today’s police officers.
