BACOLOD CITY — The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has called on the public to remain vigilant and observe basic safety measures to ensure a peaceful celebration of Christmas and New Year.
With the start of the yuletide season marked by increased travel, social gatherings, and business activity, PRO-NIR intensified police visibility by deploying additional patrols and establishing strategic checkpoints across the region.
These security efforts are being carried out in close coordination with local government units in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, as well as Negros Oriental and Siquijor, in partnership with barangay officials and force multipliers.
Police reminded the public to comply with local ordinances on firecrackers and pyrotechnics, practice fire safety at home, and closely supervise children to help prevent accidents during the holidays.
Authorities also advised residents to secure their homes and valuables, remain alert in crowded places such as malls, markets, churches, and transport terminals, and strictly observe traffic laws, particularly the ban on drunk driving.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, underscored the importance of public cooperation, saying safety during the yuletide season is a shared responsibility.
He urged everyone to remain alert, responsible, and cooperative throughout the holiday period.
The public was likewise encouraged to promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or through local hotlines, as part of the region’s intensified holiday security operations.
