The Police Regional Office 6 and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology are discussing reports that some inmates were able to use mobile phones while behind bars.
Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan, Western Visayas police chief, said Philippine National Police Regional Intelligence Division chief Col. Giovanni Musico had spoken with BJMP officials “to iron things about that information.”
Ligan was apparently referring to the case of two brothers who were arrested in a police anti-narcotics operation on May 5 in Barangay Tacas, Jaro, Iloilo City.
After alias Enil, 40, and his younger brother, alias Boyboy, 31, were taken into police custody, a certain Ruben called them and asked if they had delivered something to a customer.
Police said Ruben is an inmate at a BJMP facility in Barangay Ungka, Jaro.
Following the incident, PRO-6 held discussions with the BJMP to strengthen their campaign against illegal drugs.
“In the coming days, there would be positive operations relevant to our collaboration with the BJMP,” Ligan said.
However, he did not provide details.
