BACOLOD City – The City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) seized more or less 71 grams of suspected shabu worth P852,000 from a 19-year-old pregnant woman in a drug buy-bust at Barangay 2 here on July 3, 2019.
Arrested was Beverly Maraviles.
Police recovered from her 17 sachets of suspected shabu, the P1,000 marked money, a digital weighing scale, plastic sachet used for repacking, and a pair of scissors.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Leonardo Borromeo, CDEU head, said Maraviles tried to flee when she sensed she was transacting with a police agent, but she was cornered by the authorities.
She acted like she was about to faint, and she was crying, that’s why we called assistance from the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of Police Station 2, Borromeo said.
Borromeo said Maraviles can be considered as a high value target because of the big volume of drugs she possessed.
Maraviles was placed under surveillance for a few months after police received reports about her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade, Borromeo said.
Her husband was previously arrested for the same offense at their house few years ago, he added.
Borromeo said the suspect might be connected to a drug group, where she probably gets her supply for the illegal activity.
“We are still trying to determine which group she belongs to,” he added.
Borromeo said that the suspect’s house is also being used as a venue for alleged “pot sessions.”
He said the suspect usually distributes her supply within the said village.
Borromeo said they will allow her to go out from jail when she gives birth next week but she will be strictly guarded by police at a hospital.
Maraviles is detained at Police Station 2 for the filing of drug charges.
Meanwhile, Maraviles, in a media interview, denied the allegations against her, claiming she did not own the recovered contraband.
