Pototan school suspends classes over TikTok threat

ILOILO CITY — A school in Pototan, Iloilo, suspended classes after an 11-year-old student received a threatening message through her social media account.
Accompanied by her mother, alias Ciara, a student at Pototan Pilot Elementary School, reported to the Pototan Municipal Police Station that she received the message through her TikTok account at about 9 a.m. on July 30.
The sender, who used the TikTok name “Anson,” claimed that Pototan Pilot Elementary School would be the “next target.”
The sender also said pupils in Grades 1 through 6 should be ready by 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026.
Another message contained a photograph of an AK-47-style rifle.
Police Maj. Dominick Parreño, Pototan police chief, said the sender did not explicitly state why the pupils should be ready Friday.
After the incident was reported, police coordinated with the school head to verify the threat.
The school administration later suspended classes for the day as a precaution.
Parreño said local police and personnel from the Philippine National Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit conducted a paneling operation on the campus.
Regular classes are expected to resume once authorities declare the campus safe.
The case was also referred to the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 6 for verification, investigation, and appropriate action.
