Police chiefs told to boost police presence on roads to avoid accidents

BACOLOD City – Police Colonel Leo Pamittan, director of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here, has instructed police chiefs to deploy personnel on roads to prevent accidents as the holiday season is approaching.

This, after a series of road accidents involving trucks and motorcycles have been reported recently in the province.

“We all know ngayon is rainy season. Madulas ang daan,” Pamittan said, as he ordered policemen to be visible on roads, especially in intersections.

Pamittan said that this will help warn motorists not to speed off and to slow down in intersections.

Along with this, Pamittan said that he is also planning to have a dialogue with local government units (LGUs) to come up with a program inviting agencies like the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to improve situations in highways.

Pamittan said that there are not enough warning signs on roads. Thus, he said that he is taking the initiative to talk to these concerned agencies for coordination and programs for road safety.

He also instructed police chiefs to warn hauler trucks to install proper headlights and to properly load sugarcane in trucks to avoid unnecessary road blockings.

“I hope by the end of this year, sana maging successful ang plano for joint programs with the LTO and DPWH,” he said.

Meanwhile, in E.B. Magalona, a tricycle driver died while his two passengers were wounded after they were hit by a prime mover truck in Barangay Alicante last Tuesday.
