UPV Chancellor Camposano to keynote EDSUM 2026 in Iloilo

Dr. Clement Castigador Camposano, chancellor of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), will deliver one of the keynote addresses at the Education Summit 2026 (EDSUM 2026) on July 24-25 at the Graduate and Continuing Education Building of UP Visayas.
Educators and education leaders from across Western Visayas are expected to gather for two days of dialogue on the future of Philippine education.
Organized by the UP Visayas Master of Education Alumni Association (UPVMEAA) in partnership with the UP Visayas Division of Professional Education and the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines-Iloilo Chapter, the summit carries the theme “Reimagining Philippine Education: Equity, Innovation, and Transformative Learning.”
The event is among the major academic activities of the UP Visayas Homecoming Week.
Camposano, the 11th chancellor of UP Visayas, is widely recognized for his contributions to Philippine studies, higher education, and civic education.
He earned his doctorate in Philippine studies (anthropology) from UP Diliman, where he also completed his master’s degree in political science, after finishing his bachelor’s degree in political science and history at UP Visayas. His research covers contemporary migration, Philippine history and culture, citizenship, and civic education, with scholarly works published in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and international academic publications.
Among his recent contributions is “Plural Entanglements: Philippine Studies,” a co-edited volume published by Ateneo de Manila University Press in 2023 that advances more inclusive and innovative perspectives on Philippine studies.
His academic leadership extends beyond the university as a senior fellow of the Philippine Public Safety College, a member of the Memory of the World Committee of the Philippine National Commission for UNESCO, and the current president of the Philippine Studies Association.
In nearly four decades in higher education, Camposano has served as a faculty member of the UPV Division of Professional Education, professor at the University of Asia and the Pacific, faculty member of the UP Diliman College of Education, dean of student affairs at UP Visayas, and educator at West Visayas State University.
He has also served multiple terms as chair of the Philippine Center for Civic Education and Democracy, an organization promoting active citizenship and democratic participation.
At EDSUM 2026, Camposano is expected to share his perspectives on educational leadership, higher education, citizenship, curriculum, and transformative learning.
He will join Dr. Karol Mark Yee, executive director of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II), and Prof. Early Sol A. Gadong, UP faculty regent, as keynote speakers for the summit’s plenary sessions.
EDCOM II, created by Republic Act 11899 in 2022, is conducting a comprehensive three-year review of the Philippine education system, and its annual reports have flagged persistent gaps in learning outcomes, teacher support, and governance — concerns that frame much of the summit’s agenda.
The summit has received institutional support from the Department of Education Regional Office VI, the Regional Association of State Universities and Colleges VI, the Schools Division Offices of Iloilo Province, Iloilo City, Roxas City, and Antique, and several higher education institutions across Western Visayas.
According to the organizers, these endorsements demonstrate a shared commitment to strengthening professional learning, promoting research-informed educational practice, and fostering closer collaboration between the basic and higher education sectors.
The organizers noted that the endorsements encourage official attendance provided participation does not disrupt classroom instruction, school operations, or existing DepEd policies. Attendance remains subject to the approval of school authorities and the applicable requirements of the service.
EDSUM 2026 aims to provide a collaborative space where teachers, school leaders, researchers, guidance practitioners, graduate students, curriculum specialists, and policymakers can exchange ideas, examine pressing educational challenges, and explore innovative and equitable approaches to improving Philippine education.
Faculty members, school administrators, supervisors, guidance counselors, curriculum specialists, local government education personnel, graduate students, researchers, and other education professionals are invited to participate while slots remain available. Registration is on a first-registered, first-served basis.
Interested participants may register through http://bit.ly/EDSUM26RegistrationSubmission. The summit primer and endorsement request template are available at https://bit.ly/EDSUM26_Primer.
