BACOLOD CITY — In a heartfelt celebration of the Christmas season, Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas C. Ibay, regional director of the Philippine National Police – Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR), led a gift-giving event on Dec. 22 for children and families in Barangay Latasan, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental.
The initiative, conducted in coordination with Barangay Captain Merlinda Dioneo and supported by the E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station, was attended by local government officials, Barangay Tanods, Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) members, children, and parents. The event served as a collaborative effort to extend holiday cheer to an underserved community.
A total of 100 children received burgers, ice cream, slippers, toys, and cash—simple but meaningful gifts that sparked smiles and laughter among recipients. The outreach aimed to bring joy, hope, and a sense of compassion during the holiday season, especially to areas facing geographic and economic challenges.
Barangay Latasan was selected for the outreach due to its remote location and the unique hardships experienced by its residents. Organizers emphasized the importance of ensuring that the spirit of giving reaches even the most isolated communities.
“Police service goes beyond the enforcement of laws, and is deeply anchored in humanity, compassion, and genuine service to the people,” Ibay said. “Even the simplest acts of kindness can leave a lasting impact, reminding everyone that the true spirit of the holidays shines brightest when communities unite in generosity, goodwill, and shared compassion”.
The warm reception by Barangay Latasan residents highlighted the event’s success. Children’s laughter and the smiles of parents illustrated the joy brought by the gesture, reinforcing the idea that public service includes nurturing trust and community well-being.
As the holiday season continues, PRO NIR reaffirmed its commitment to fostering compassion, unity, and selfless service. The organization said efforts like this illustrate how small gestures can create significant impact, especially for children during the most festive time of the year.
Through continued outreach, PRO NIR aims to deepen its connection with communities and promote a culture of kindness within and beyond the police force.
