PHP48.1-M River Control Project Completed in Guimbal, Iloilo

A newly completed river protection structure in Barangay Camangahan, Guimbal, Iloilo aims to safeguard nearby communities and agricultural areas from flooding and erosion.
The project, implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways Iloilo 1st District Engineering Office, was funded under the FY 2024 General Appropriations Act with a total cost of PHP48.1 million.
The Guimbal River Control involves a 266-lineal meter, 6-meter-high concrete wall designed to provide critical protection during typhoon season and other extreme weather conditions.
According to OIC-District Engineer Ethel B. Morales, DPWH Region 6 Officer-in-Charge Director Joel F. Limpengco said the structure reflects the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance disaster resilience.
“This river control is a vital infrastructure that not only protects communities from water overflow but also reinforces our department’s commitment to building safe, climate-resilient infrastructure,” Director Limpengco said.
“This structure will significantly benefit the people of Barangay Camangahan and other communities along the Guimbal River, providing improved safeguards even during extreme weather conditions,” he added.
The Guimbal River Control marks continued progress in DPWH’s flood mitigation initiatives and highlights its commitment to delivering meaningful, climate-adaptive public infrastructure across Iloilo.
