A total of 50 families in Barangay Quinagaringan Grande, Passi City, Iloilo will benefit from a newly inaugurated water system worth PHP1,598,669.18.
The project was officially opened on May 27.
Its completion comes at a crucial time, as the barangay faced severe water shortages following the destruction caused by Super Typhoon Yolanda.
Residents endured a lack of stable water access for two years.
Rizel C. Saplad, a member of the Balud Water System Board of Directors, expressed gratitude for the project, citing its importance in addressing inconsistent supply, especially during the dry season.
“This assistance is truly a huge help to our daily needs,” she said.
Milagros C. Cerbaña, also a board member, highlighted the project’s long-term benefits for the community.
The Iloilo Provincial Government implemented the project through the Provincial Engineer’s Office under the MoRProGRes (Movement for Robust, Progressive, Globally Competitive, Resilient) Iloilo program.
Gov. Arthur R. Defensor Jr. led the inauguration, joined by Punong Barangay Ariel C. Castellano and Provincial Engineer Romeo C. Andig.
In his speech, Defensor thanked the community for its support and emphasized the importance of clean, reliable water access.
He also highlighted the role of community-based organizations in maintaining the water system’s long-term sustainability.
Also in attendance were officials from nearby barangays and representatives of the Balud Water System Board of Directors.
