PHP 100,000 bounty offered in NegOr barangay chief killing

BACOLOD CITY — Negros Oriental 1st District Rep. Emmanuel Iway has offered a PHP 100,000 cash reward for information that could lead authorities to identify and arrest the perpetrators behind the killing of a barangay official in Barangay Kansumandig, La Libertad, Negros Oriental, on Wednesday.
In a Facebook post, the lawmaker called for justice for Barangay Kansumandig Captain Dennis Jimpayan, whom he remembered as a close friend and a person who served his community for more than 20 years.
Iway said he had witnessed for many years how Jimpayan gave his all without asking for anything in return, stressing that he was a clear example of service that truly came from the heart.
“We will not let this matter go, and we will continue our efforts to seek justice for you, Nis,” Iway stated.
He urged anyone with information to coordinate with the police.
The municipal government of La Libertad also mourned Jimpayan’s death and expressed condolences to his family.
“May you find strength in the love of those who surround you and comfort in knowing that his legacy of service lives on. Thank you for your service to La Libertad,” the local government stated.
A Special Investigation Task Group has been created to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the killing of the incumbent barangay captain.
Police said Jimpayan was riding his motorcycle home from Barangay Pacuan when residents heard several gunshots at Sitio Mabilog in Barangay Kansumandig at about 5:20 a.m. on Sept. 23.
Jimpayan was later found lying along the road with gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene, according to police.
Investigators recovered three empty .45-caliber shells, four slugs and a cellular phone from the crime scene, while police continued to look for witnesses and possible closed-circuit television footage that could aid the investigation.
Police Capt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson for the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said investigators are pursuing a lead but declined to elaborate or speculate to avoid compromising the investigation.
Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region Director Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales ordered the creation of the task group to identify and arrest those behind the killing, while the motive and identities of the assailants remain under investigation.
