High school student drowns in Kabankalan creek

BACOLOD CITY — A 16-year-old high school student drowned in a creek in Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday.
Police investigation showed that the victim and his minor classmates went swimming after classes were suspended that afternoon.
While attempting to cross the creek on his way home, the victim was seen struggling in the water and eventually failed to stay afloat.
The victim was rescued and brought to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
The incident was reported to police by the victim’s uncle later that day.
The victim’s family believes the incident was accidental, with no foul play suspected, according to police.
