In celebration of International Youth Month, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Guimaras held an environmental education and tree-planting event at Agsanayan National High School on Aug. 27, 2025.
The event, titled “Green Leaders in the Making: An Environmental Education and Tree Planting Initiative,” gathered 30 students from Grades 7 to 9 for a series of interactive activities.
PENRO officer Louie L. Laud opened the program by highlighting the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ efforts in waste management and reforestation.
Students attended lectures on the history of International Youth Day, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and key environmental laws in the Philippines.
To make the sessions engaging, participants were divided into groups to complete four challenges focused on climate action, recycling, waste sorting, and environmental knowledge.
For 20 minutes at each station, students played a recycling game, joined a Recycle Rally Bingo challenge, and tested their learning through an environmental quiz.
The event concluded with a tree-planting activity on the school grounds.
Each student planted one fruit tree seedling, including chestnut (Castanopsis philipinensis), jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), and wild cherry, locally known as bugnay (Antidesma bunius). (DENR-6)
