BACOLOD City – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-6 will conduct thermal destruction of P5,066,189.04 worth of shabu at San Carlos Bio-Energy, Inc. (SCBI) in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental today, Nov 26, 2021.
PDEA-6 spokesperson Shey Tanaleon, said 745.0278 grams of suspected shabu and 423.2072 grams of marijuana will be incinerated.
Just last month, PDEA-6 visited the SCBI to check the facility pending the approval on their request to hold the ceremonial destruction at the plant.
Tanaleon said they are still waiting for about five kilos of shabu that are still being retrieved by chemists from the courts as of Thursday afternoon. This will be on top of the initial 745 grams of shabu.
Tanaleon said the illegal drugs which will be destroyed were used as evidence in courts which already made decisions on the cases.
Tanaleon said the activity will be witnessed by representatives of the Department of Justice (DOJ), Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 forensics unit, elected officials, and PDEA-6 assistant director Donelyn Hemedez.
Tanaleon said this will be the first destruction of drugs in the province, and the second and last in the region for this year. The first activity was held in a funeral home in Jaro, Iloilo last March.
Tanaleon said the destruction of the illegal drugs will be held in a closed area with a specific degree of heat to ensure the incineration of the substances.
“Daw cremation man ang guwa sang procedure,” she added.
Tanaleon said they are targeting to conduct the activity quarterly next year, provided that all the requirements needed for the ceremonial destruction will be complied.
