PCBA Guimaras students bag top spot in Phl Statistics Quiz

STUDENTS of the Philippine College of Business and Accountancy (PCBA) bagged first place in the Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ)-Provincial Elimination Round hosted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras.

Rogelio Flores of PCBA topped the quiz, while Peter Shan Ramos of PCBA and Jeanette Gaugano of GSU- Salvador, got the second and third place, respectively.

They received their awards during the 30th National Statistics Month Culminating Activity themed “Data Innovation: Key to a Better Nation”, on Oct 29, 2019 at the Provincial Covered Gym in San Miguel, Jordan town.

Two tertiary schools joined the PSQ contest with five college students each from Guimaras State University (GSU)- Mosqueda and Salvador Campus and four from the Philippine College of Business and Accountancy (PCBA).

Shella Mae Besares, Lyca Marie Engallado, Christine Caro, Joseph Tacda, and Stephen Niel Sarmiento were the participants from GSU-Mosqueda Campus.

GSU-Salvador Campus was presented by Shaina Grace Gomia, Mary Zherlyn Gregorio, Mary Joy Jungco, Tracey De Pama, and Jeanette Gaugano.

The PCBA representatives were Robert Erbite, Rogelio Flores, Peter Shan Ramos and Juliet Tanaleon.

All participating 14 freshmen college students were given a certificate of participation while students who topped the contest received Php3,000 cash prizes with certificates of recognition.

the second and third placers received the same certificates with Php2,000 and Php1,000 cash prizes, respectively.

The top two winners will represent Guimaras in the Regional PSQ contest on November 12, 2019, wherein the winners will represent Western Visayas in the national level in December 2019.

The PSQ is an annual contest designed to test the knowledge on statistics of freshmen students enrolled in colleges and universities in the 17 regions of the country.

It aims to assess the competency and skills of students in statistics as acquired from the secondary education curriculum; to promote, enhance, and instill awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of science, statistics in particular, among the students, and to generate public awareness on the importance of statistics in all development-planning activities and win overall support for all government statistical activities.
