Patrick Deyto retires from Philippine national team
Veteran goalkeeper Patrick Deyto has retired from Philippine national team duty, ending more than a decade of service between the posts.
Deyto first disclosed his decision after the Philippines’ final match against Malaysia in the ASEAN Championship on Saturday.
The Philippine men’s national football team formally confirmed the 36-year-old goalkeeper’s retirement Sunday.
“The gloves come down, but the legacy stands tall,” the team said in a social media post.
“After a remarkable career between the posts for club and country, Patrick Deyto officially hangs up his national team gloves following his final PMNFT match at the Hyundai Cup.”
“From game-winning saves to guiding the backline with veteran leadership, Pat has been a pillar of strength on the pitch.”
“Thank you for the sacrifice, the passion, and every moment you fought for the flag.”
Deyto’s retirement closes an international career that began at the under-23 level in 2013.
The De La Salle University product joined the senior national team the following year and made his international debut against Malaysia on March 1, 2014.
Deyto became the Philippines’ first-choice goalkeeper during the 2014 ASEAN Football Federation Championship when other established options were unavailable.
He later played club football in the Philippines and Thailand before joining Kaya FC-Iloilo, which lists Chonburi, Stallion Laguna, PT Prachuap, Suphanburi, Davao Aguilas, Global Cebu, Green Archers United and Pachanga among his previous clubs.
Deyto started all four Philippine group-stage matches in the 2024 ASEAN Championship but suffered a right leg injury early in the 1-0 victory over Indonesia on Dec. 21.
The injury forced him to leave the tournament before the Philippines faced Thailand in the semifinals.
Deyto returned to the national team pool for the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers in March 2026.
He made his international comeback against Thailand on Aug. 4 before playing his final national team match against Malaysia.
