ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The “Benteng Bigas Meron (BBM) Na” PHP20 rice project of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was formally launched Monday afternoon, June 30, at the National Food Authority warehouse in Barangay Bolo, Roxas City.
The event was led by officials from the National Food Authority and the Department of Labor and Employment.
Around 60 construction workers from MBM Construction, all minimum wage earners, were the first beneficiaries, purchasing 10 kilos of rice each at PHP20 per kilo.
Engr. Michael L. Gison, provincial head of the DOLE Capiz Field Office, said Capiz is the second province in Western Visayas to avail of the program.
He added that this marks the first batch of beneficiaries and that more minimum wage earners in the province are expected to benefit in the coming weeks.
NFA Capiz Acting Branch Manager Andy P. Ostan said the project will benefit not only workers but also local farmers, who can sell their rice directly to the NFA.
