Overeem gets 1-year suspension from GLORY after failing drug test

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) superstar Alistair Overeem was slapped with a 12-month suspension by GLORY Kickboxing after failing his drug test announced last March 15, 2023.

GLORY was firm with their decision after the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) top heavyweight contender tested positive for a banned substance which is yet to be disclosed.

The violation was confirmed after Overeem failed to meet GLORY’s drug testing during his fight against nemesis Badr Hari during the tournament’s COLLISION 4 event last October.

Overeem defeated Hari during that clash via a unanimous decision and following the sequence of the recent events, that victory will now be overturned into a no-contest.

“Alistair Overeem has been removed from the GLORY rankings and his fight again Badr Hari is ruled a “No Contest” due to a violation of GLORY’s anti-doping rules. His suspension is for 12 months, starting at his last fight – COLLISION 4. And he must return a percentage of his wages,” wrote GLORY in their statement.

Overeem was just starting to rekindle his MMA career after undergoing a hiatus when his last fight came two years ago when he was still in the UFC.

Eager to put his name back in the MMA scene, Overeem then signed with GLORY kickboxing and was immediately scheduled for a bout against Hari.

However, his fight against Hari proved to be his first and last bout with the GLORY franchise depending if they will renew Overeem soon as his 12-month suspension lapses.

“The Demolition Man” is one of the most devastating punchers in the heavyweight division and is currently holding an impressive record of 47 wins, 25 knockouts, and 19 losses.
