Over 700 young children registered to PhilSys in Guimaras

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office reported successful registration of 716 children aged 1-4 to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) as of March 31, 2024.

The initiative began in February and aims to incorporate more Filipinos, including minors, into the national ID system.

“A total of 1,456 individuals were added to the list as of March 31, 2024, of which 716, or 32.97%, were children aged 1-4 years,” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said

The breakdown of registrations by municipality includes 36 registrants from Buenavista, 304 from Nueva Valencia, 104 from Jordan, 184 from San Lorenzo, and 88 from Sibunag.

“To register, a PhilSys-registered parent or guardian must be present. The child’s PhilSys number, or permanent identification number, will be linked to the accompanying parent or guardian,” Losare said in explaining the registration process

She added that the process requires supporting documents to validate the child’s demographic information. Acceptable documents include a certificate of live birth, a report of birth from the PSA or a Philippine Foreign Service Post, or a Philippine passport, among others.

“Upon authentication of demographic information, a front-facing photograph of the child will be taken,” said Losare. “Other biometric information including fingerprints and iris scans, as well as an updated photograph, will be captured when the child turns five years old.”

Losare urged all parents and guardians to participate in this initiative, emphasizing its importance for the next generation. She noted that the PSA Guimaras will continue its registration activities, maintaining a fixed registration center and deploying mobile teams to reach those in isolated or disadvantaged areas.
