BACOLOD City – Policemen arrested yesterday one of the two suspects tagged behind the killing of a security guard at Sitio Bagacay, Barangay Daan Banua, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental last Wednesday.
Police Lieutenant Colonel John Joel Batusbatusan, city police chief, identified the suspect as Janro Dela Torre, 26, of Barangay Guilungan, Cauayan town.
Based on police investigation, Dela Torre was allegedly driving a motorcycle when his unidentified companion shot the victim identified as Solomon Nombre, 60.
Nombre was riding a bike on his way to work when the suspects waylaid him, and one of them shot him twice in the chest. The victim was declared dead in a hospital.
Batusbatusan said that police returned to Barangay Daan Banua yesterday after a witness surfaced and identified the suspects allegedly involved in the crime.
The two suspects were hiding in a rice field when police arrived. Dela Torre was cornered, while his companion managed to escape.
Police have yet to determine the motive of the killing. A pursuit operation is ongoing for the arrest of the other suspect.
Meanwhile, a man died after he was hacked to death by his son following a heated argument between them in Barangay San Pablo, Manapla town last Tuesday.
Police identified the victim as Florencio Arquiza Sr., 58.
Major Jaynick Bermudez, town police chief, said the victim went to the house of his son 38-year-old Mayo Arquiza but the latter refused to let him in, leading to a heated argument.
A commotion followed, and the two were pacified by the suspect’s brother. but the suspect got irked and allegedly hacked his father with a cane cutter, hitting his right arm.
“Pirmi man sila ga away. Halos everyday. Amo to nga gab-i napuno na siguro ang bata,” Bermudez said.
Bermudez said the suspect was arrested. Police are waiting for the decision of the family on the filing of the case.
