A delivery truck helper was killed and three others were injured when a closed van flipped onto its side early morning on May 26 in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.
The fatality was identified as Arnulfo Villarice, 55, of Barangay Tiwi, Barotac Nuevo, who died from head injuries.
The injured were truck driver Vincent Ilangos, 39, and Ronnie Layson, 57, both from Barangay North Fundidor, Molo, Iloilo City, and a man known as alias Apa Gigeta, also from Barangay Tiwi.
Police said Ilangos was driving a Foton Tornado aluminum closed van from Estancia town, transporting several tons of fish to Iloilo City.
As they were navigating a downhill road in Sitio Lomboy, Barangay San Juan, Barotac Viejo, at around 4:20 a.m. Monday, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure.
The van flipped onto its side as a result.
Villarice was seated at the rightmost side of the vehicle when the accident occurred.
All four men were brought to Governor Niel D. Tupas Sr. District Hospital, where Villarice was declared dead an hour later.
The three other passengers sustained minor injuries.
