BACOLOD CITY – Consumers of Negros Electric and Power Corp. (NEPC) will enjoy a substantial reduction in electricity rates this month, bringing welcome relief to households and businesses.
NEPC announced that the average residential rate has dropped to PHP 11.44 per kilowatt hour (kWh), down by PHP 1.66 per kWh from January’s PHP 13.10 per kWh.
The decrease will be reflected in consumers’ February billing statements.
For households consuming an average of 200 kWh per month, this translates to savings of approximately PHP 322 for the month.
The primary factor behind the lower rates is a sharp decline in generation costs, particularly from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).
WESM prices fell significantly from PHP 7.5031 per kWh to PHP 4.4872 per kWh, a reduction of PHP 3.0160 per kWh.
This dramatic drop followed the normalization and synchronization of power plants within the Visayas Grid, which improved supply conditions and eased market prices.
Additionally, rates from Green Core Geothermal Inc. (GCGI) decreased by PHP 0.3136 per kWh, mainly due to adjustments from the previous month’s billing and the implementation of its new 2026 base rate.
Altogether, these changes resulted in a PHP 1.4199 per kWh reduction in the overall generation charge, more than offsetting minor increases in transmission and other pass-through charges.
While there was a slight uptick in the transmission charge from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) and in the Universal Charge for Missionary Electrification (UCME), their overall impact remained minimal compared to the substantial decline in generation costs.
Other February 2026 average rates include low voltage at PHP 11.50 per kWh and high voltage at PHP 10.41 per kWh.
