Negros Power marks second anniversary with Murcia river cleanup

MURCIA, Negros Occidental — Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) marked its second anniversary with a river cleanup in Purok Paghidaet, Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, on Aug. 4, reaffirming its commitment to environmental protection and community stewardship.

The activity, part of the company’s anniversary celebration themed “Stronger Together,” brought together Negros Power personnel and partner organizations early in the morning to help protect the environment and support the local community.

Negros Power Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Joe-Mel Zaporteza led the activity alongside representatives of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Municipality of Murcia, Barangay Council of Salvacion led by Barangay Captain Jenny Jimenea, and Guardians of the Environment.

Volunteers collected and properly disposed of various types of waste from the river and surrounding areas.

The cleanup helped improve the condition of the waterway while contributing to the protection of aquatic ecosystems and the surrounding environment.

Beyond cleaning the river, the initiative underscored environmental protection as a shared responsibility.

The participation of government agencies, community stakeholders, and environmental groups highlighted the role of collective action in creating meaningful and lasting change.

The river cleanup reflected the spirit of Negros Power’s second anniversary theme, “Stronger Together,” emphasizing collaboration among employees, government agencies, community leaders, environmental groups, and residents in building cleaner and more sustainable communities.

The activity also continued Negros Power’s efforts to support environmental initiatives in the communities within its service area.

Negros Power holds a 25-year franchise to distribute electricity in Bacolod, Silay, Talisay, and Bago cities, as well as the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental.

As Negros Power marks two years of service, the company continues to strengthen its commitment not only to providing dependable electricity but also to supporting initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and community well-being.
