Negros Occidental dengue cases fall 34%, 13 deaths logged

BACOLOD CITY — The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has reported 13 dengue deaths as of Sept. 19 despite a 34.09% decrease in cases since January this year in Negros Occidental.

Cadiz City recorded the most deaths with three, followed by Bago City with two and one each in La Carlota City, Silay City, Cauayan and Kabankalan City.

The PHO has yet to release details on the four other dengue-related deaths.

A total of 3,146 cases were recorded from Jan. 4 to Sept. 19 this year, 1,627 fewer than the 4,773 cases recorded during the same period in 2025.

La Carlota City recorded the most dengue cases with 566, followed by Bago City with 236, Silay City with 233, Cauayan with 182, Talisay City with 166, San Carlos City with 152, Sagay City with 140, Kabankalan City with 122, Cadiz City with 104 and Manapla with 74.

Children ages 1 to 10 accounted for the most cases.

The PHO said a community that works together to keep its environment clean is better protected against dengue.

“No one should die from a disease that can be prevented or treated early, such as dengue,” it added.

The PHO urged the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and help reduce dengue cases by following the 4S strategy.

Search and destroy measures include covering pails and drums containing water, changing water in flower vases once a week, cleaning leaves and debris from gutters, and collecting and properly disposing of tin cans, jars, bottles and other objects that can hold water.

Self-protection measures include wearing long-sleeved shirts and applying mosquito repellent daily.

The PHO also reminded the public to seek early consultation if fever persists for two days or if rashes appear, and to support fogging activities when there is an impending outbreak.
