BACOLOD City – Mayor Salvador Escalante of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Sunday confirmed that the remains of Negrense Overseas Filipino Worker Loreta Alactre arrived Sunday.
Escalante told the Daily Guardian that Alactre’s remains arrived at 5 a.m. Sunday, on a first flight plane from Manila and was fetched by some personnel of the city government and her immediate family at the Bacolod-Silay airport.
Alactre who is from Sitio Camay-a, Barangay Cadiz Viejo, Cadiz City was among the OFWs killed in the ongoing conflict between the militant Hamas forces and Israel.
Alactre’s remains were then brought to a funeral parlor in Cadiz City before being transferred to their residence.
Escalante said that the city government will look into how it can help the Alactre family on a long-term basis considering that Loreta was the breadwinner of her family.
Loreta, 49, is single and has been working as a caregiver in Israel for 14 years and was the one sending her nieces and nephews to school.
She has also been financing the construction of their family home.
Escalante said that aside from repairing the road going to the Alactre’s residence, the city government is also helping in the needed preparation for Loreta’s wake.
The mayor said for now the financial help extended to the family can help sustain their needs adding that “we are looking at how we can help them on a long-term basis.”
House Speaker Martin Romualdez and his wife Tingog partylist Yedda Romualdez gave the family a P500,000 cash assistance.
Negros Occidental 2nd district Rep. Alfredo “Thirdy” Marañon III also extended an undisclosed financial assistance.
On his part, Governor Eugenio Lacson said that he will look at where the provincial government can come in to help the family of Loreta.
