Negrense broadcaster wins Palanca award

BACOLOD City – A manager and broadcaster of an FM radio station here bagged an award in the 71st Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature Contest.

Serafin Plotria Jr. was adjudged third place winner in the Short Story – Hiligaynon category for his entry entitled “Puno Sang Aligotgot.”

Plotria, who is also an educator, is the station manager of 94.3 iFM Bacolod.

Plotria said the story of “Puno Sang Aligotgot” focuses on the lives of two siblings who were divided by resentment due to some personal circumstances.

However, when Typhoon Odette struck Negros Occidental, particularly the southern part, the siblings were reunited by the disaster, healing their wounded souls.

Plotria said that it was his second time to join the competition.

“Happy gid ko kay bisan paano, nadala ko sa bigger stage ang mga istorya lokal nga naga-reflect sang local culture of life. Madugay-dugay naman nga wala mabatian kag mabasahan ang mga sinulatan halin sa Negros Occidental,” Plotria said.

The awarding of winners will be held in Manila on November 27.

The Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature (Palanca Awards) was established in 1950 to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca, Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country.

It aims to develop Philippine Literature by providing incentives for writers to craft their most outstanding literary works by being a treasury of the Philippines’s literary gems from our gifted writers, and to assist in their eventual dissemination to our people, particularly students.
