NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that they will rename the All-Star MVP award to the Kobe Bryant MVP Award.
“Kobe Bryant is synonymous with NBA All-Star and embodies the spirit of this global celebration of our game,” Silver said.
An 18-time All-Star, Bryant was the youngest player to play in the All-Star game at the age of 19, way back 1998.
Bryant also had four All-Star MVP awards under his belt and is well-known of turning up the competition in the star-studded game that is more known for highlights rather than contention.
After the All-Star game, there will be a formal introduction in the renaming of the award and will be presented after the game.
“He always relished the opportunity to compete with the best of the best and perform at the highest level for millions of fans around the world,” Silver added.
