The Phoenix Suns became the first team to defeat the rolling San Antonio Spurs, 130-118, in the ongoing NBA regular season on Nov. 3, 2025, at the Mortgage Matchup Center.
Facing one of the hottest teams in the entire NBA, Phoenix treated its home fans to a convincing dub, highlighted by an evenly distributed offensive effort from seven of its players, while capitalizing on the Spurs’ dismal shooting from the field.
To build the early momentum, the Suns flaunted their full offensive artillery in the first quarter as they converted 14 out of their first 20 attempts from the field.
Leading the way for the former Western Conference kings was Devin Booker, who displayed his signature pull-up clinic from the top of the key.
The Suns approached the game equipped with the strategic plan of not allowing Victor Wembanyama to switch onto their guards, which paved the way for Booker and Grayson Allen to receive early touches.
As a result, Phoenix immediately bagged the lead and extended it to 18 points at the half, 70-52. The Suns’ newly acquired center, Mark Williams, also did a good job hounding Wembanyama after limiting his production to below average compared to the first five games.
San Antonio tried to free up Wembanyama by starting him at the post instead of attacking from the three-point line, but the Suns were more than prepared to meet him in the paint and clouded him with several bodies.
The quick defensive help from the baseline forced the young star to throw emergency kick-out passes, which his shooters didn’t take advantage of due to an unusual off night.
Before the fourth frame started, Phoenix was already up by 31 points, 102-78 — the Spurs’ largest deficit since starting the regular season with a 5-0 record.
Booker orchestrated the Phoenix attack with an efficient double-double of 28 points and 13 assists, while Allen and Ryan Dunn added 17 points apiece.
On the other hand, San Antonio had its worst shooting performance after burying only 10 out of its 41 attempts from the three-point line.
After averaging almost 33 points before heading to Phoenix, Wembanyama suffered his worst offensive night of the season with only nine points off 4-of-14 shooting from the field.
The Suns will look to maintain their momentum on Nov. 5 as they gear up for an explosive matchup with the Golden State Warriors, while San Antonio aims to bounce back on Nov. 6 against Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers.
