The Detroit Pistons leaned on a clinical third-quarter performance to take down the Orlando Magic, 98-83, in Game 2 of the ongoing Eastern Conference NBA playoffs on April 23, 2026.
With the much-needed win, the Pistons equalized the series at 1-all and will head to Orlando carrying momentum after becoming the No. 1 seed in the East during the regular season.
Frustrations from the Game 1 upset loss were quickly turned into fuel as the inspired and rejuvenated Detroit squad finally dictated the pace, forcing the Magic to settle for the kind of tempo it wanted, which was a slow, half-court-oriented attack.
Much of the postgame buzz focused less on Detroit’s in-game adjustments and more on its surgical third-quarter rampage, where it knocked the Magic flat-out cold with a 30-3 scoring start.
From a 46-all deadlock at the half, the Pistons immediately sucked the life out of Orlando, mounting a 27-point lead in just six minutes of pure offensive dominance backstopped by a suffocating mixed-zone defensive scheme.
Detroit almost got everything it wanted during that insane stretch, spearheaded by the quartet of Cade Cunningham, Tobias Harris, Jalen Duren, and Duncan Robinson.
After a brief 5-0 personal run from Cunningham, Harris and Duren took matters into their own hands in the paint, while Robinson capped the 30-3 run with an off-the-curl 3-pointer from the left elbow.
Stunned and demoralized by the chain of events that dashed by like a blur, the Magic called a series of emergency timeouts in hopes of halting the bleeding, but the in-the-zone Pistons mauled Orlando on both ends of the floor, extending their mastery into the fourth quarter.
Orlando tried desperately to chop its deficit after going all out with its starting unit from the get-go, but Detroit provided counters when Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner scored buckets in the crucial stretch of the period.
Answering the call for the Pistons were Cunningham and Harris, who combined for 12 points in the final four minutes of the fourth quarter to help protect Detroit’s double-digit cushion.
The Magic threatened to close the gap after inching to within 13 points off a Jalen Suggs trey, but clutch buckets from Duren and Cunningham officially shut the door on Orlando to formalize the Game 2 win.
For the second consecutive game, Cunningham top-scored for the Pistons with a game-high 27 points on an efficient 11-of-19 shooting from the field, along with 11 assists and six rebounds.
Harris delivered a double-double outing of 16 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks, while Duren chipped in 11 points, nine rebounds, four dimes, and a steal.
Both teams will still have two days to devise their respective game plans as they square off again in Game 3 on April 26, 2026, at the Kia Center in Florida.
