The Chicago Bulls finally lent the signing pen to Josh Giddey after both camps agreed to a four-year contract extension deal worth $100 million, confirmed on Sept. 10, 2025.
With the recent development, Chicago just shut down rumors that they will ship Giddey to free up more cap space and sign a superstar-level player who can play alongside Coby White and Nikola Vucevic.
Fresh off a promising stint with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Giddey immediately made an impact in his debut season with the Bulls, playing 69 regular-season games while averaging 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per contest.
However, Giddey’s all-around game wasn’t enough to steer Chicago back to the NBA Playoffs, missing the postseason since the Thunder’s semifinal run in the 2023-2024 season.
Giddey was part of the building block trade that sent defensive maestro Alex Caruso to Oklahoma, which paid off dividends after the veteran lynchpin helped the Thunder clinch the 2025 NBA Larry O’Brien trophy.
The versatile point-forward underwent a major transition since his arrival at the Windy City and had to step up his defensive game under the system of head coach Billy Donovan.
Unlike his tenure with the Thunder, where he had Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, who can cover his back, Chicago had fewer rim protectors, forcing him to take on every single defensive coverage in the perimeter.
Midway through the season, Donovan tried to revert Giddey back to his point-forward role, but the move dipped White’s offensive numbers down during the eight-game stretch.
This upcoming NBA season will be a fresh start for the Bulls, bannered by Giddey, White, Vucevic, Matas Buzelis, Patrick Williams, Ayo Dosunmu, and Kevin Huerter.
