The country’s first-ever National Sports Academy (NSA) is set to hone the Philippines’ future athletes and start its classes in 2021.
During a site visit by the NSA officials at New Clark City, Executive Director Prof. Josephine Joy Reyes and the Department of Education (DepEd) confirmed how excited they are for 2021.
Through the development of the NSA, grassroots program for sports will be given the attention they deserve and the production of world-class athletes will not be based on hand-picking anymore but through a thorough and systematic process.
Also, the presence of the facilities in New Clark City will provide the much-needed practice designations for the athletes and to what sports they are under.
“It is significant for the NSA to be situated in New Clark City where the 30th SEA Games in 2019 was held. This is a testament to the government’s capacity to have a continuous and sustainable program in optimizing the usage of the facilities that we have built for the hosting of the Games,” Reyes said.
BCDA President and CEO Vince Hizon added that the sports facilities at New Clark will be “the government’s lasting legacy in the development of future generations of athletes.”
“We are excited to see our young students train into becoming world champions. We hope the facilities in New Clark City will inspire and motivate them to excel further both in sports and their academics,” Dizon shared.
