He is still the undisputed King of clay.
Too dominant, too good, Rafael Nadal asserted his mastery over world no. 1 Novak Djokovic in just three sets, 6-0, 6-2, 7-5, to clinch another tennis record of 13 championships in Roland Garros while tying the great Roger Federer with the most Grand Slam titles won at 20.
It was a Nadal clinic since the start of the match after piling up forehand winner after winner to stun the Serbian and go up love-set heading into the second.
Djokovic tried to mix things up in the second set after attempting to attack the net as much as he can but the Spaniard went off and scored on several passing shots that negated the Serbian’s net strategy.
The consistency Nadal displayed with was inhumane after going perfect in all of his services in the first two sets that enabled him to lead 2-0 which put an immense amount of pressure against Djokovic.
With a score away from his French Open title, Nadal whipped a strong lefty service, scored an ace, and began to drop to his knees and embraced the moment.
“To win here means everything to me, no? It’s not the moment, honestly. To think today about the 20th. Roland Garros means everything to me. I spent, here, the most important moments, or most of the most important moments, in my tennis career, no doubt about that,” said Nadal.
