Myanmar delivered a commanding 6-1 win over Guam on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in match day two of the Tri-Nation Friendlies hosted by the Philippine Football Federation.
Soe Moe Kyaw opened the scoring in the 13th minute, powering a header into the net from a short-corner routine after Myat Kaung Khant delivered the cross.
Mg Mg Lwin doubled Myanmar’s lead in the 23rd minute with a composed finish off a quick transition run.
Win Naing Tun made it 3-0 before halftime, finishing a textbook midfield buildup created by Min Maw Oo.
Myanmar continued its dominance after the break as Win Naing Tun scored again in the 53rd minute, converting after Myat Kaung Khant intercepted the ball in midfield.
Zaw Win Thein added another goal three minutes later, cutting away from his marker before slotting in off Myat Kaung Khant’s incisive cutback to make it 5-0 in the 57th minute.
Substitute Shine Wanna Aung completed Myanmar’s scoring in the 85th minute, heading in from close range off Zwe Khant Min’s cross from the left.
Guam pulled one back late after James Alfred Gomez was brought down inside the box by Hein Zeyar Lin. Gomez converted the penalty to settle the final score.
“The biggest takeaway is just getting more matches with these squads,” Gomez said. “We all come from different countries, so it’s good to come together for this Tri-Nation Friendlies Series — getting to play more together and develop our skills as a team. Beautiful stadium, beautiful country, the hospitality has been great, and thank you to the fans who came in to support us today. Football is big here, and we really appreciate it.”
Myat Kaung Khant, who was a constant creative threat for Myanmar, said the team is already focused on its final match against the Philippines.
“We’ve played very well — most of our players are talented,” Khant said. “In the next game, we meet with the Philippines, so we will prepare a lot. We are in the same group in the Hyundai Cup, so this match means something to us. I hope fans come on Tuesday to see us play.”
The final fixture of the 2026 Manila Tri-Nation Friendlies will pit the Philippine Men’s National Football Team against Myanmar on June 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Philippines won its opening fixture against Guam, 5-1.
The Philippines and Myanmar also played to a 1-1 draw at the same venue in December 2024. (PFF)
