For the first time, Czech ace Karolina Muchova qualified for the semifinal round of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament.
In a jam-packed All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Muchova pulled off one of her most consistent performances on grass after defeating Naomi Osaka, 7-6(4), 6-4, to reach the Final Four on July 7, 2026.
Muchova also ended the majestic run of the former world No. 1 and four-time Grand Slam queen, who entered the quarterfinal showdown with oozing confidence after taking down Aryna Sabalenka in the Round of 16.
During the intense quarterfinal clash, Muchova’s tactical playing style and shot variety proved to be too much, subduing Osaka’s aggressive point of attack, which gradually slowed after the Czech prevailed in the opening set.
It was an odd way to start as both stars exchanged breaks in the first few games, but after they shrugged off their jitters, the chess match quickly began, with Muchova jumping ahead after breaking down Osaka’s baseline game with her net prowess.
Muchova survived a frantic 10th game after a double fault handed Osaka a break-point chance, but the Czech netter saved it with back-to-back groundstroke points.
Osaka answered with a service hold of her own for a 6-all deadlock, which paved the way for the deciding tiebreak.
All hell broke loose in the decider, as Muchova raced to a commanding 6-2 lead after stumping Osaka with a series of on-point baseline shots and patience that generated two crucial smashes at the net.
Osaka scored two more points to keep her hopes alive, but Muchova capped the tiebreak with a decisive forehand winner to move ahead, 1-0.
Anticlimactically, the second set was more of a Muchova showcase as she capitalized on the exhausted Osaka, who was visibly seen gasping for air at every changeover.
Muchova immediately pounced on the struggling Osaka, scoring a crucial break before a dominant hold to officially seal a Wimbledon semifinal berth.
Muchova capped the impressive quarterfinal win with 84 total points won, including seven aces, three breaks, and 38 return points.
“It’s unbelievable, I am super happy,” Muchova said.
“We finally made it today, I got that win, in front of you all. Thank you for supporting us. I love grass, I love to play on this surface and try to enjoy it.”
With the win, Muchova will seek to sustain her momentum against Coco Gauff in the semifinal after Gauff earlier took down Jessica Pegula in come-from-behind fashion, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
