One of the fast-emerging pickleball hubs in Iloilo successfully launched its inaugural tournament on July 4, 2026, in Parara Norte, Tigbauan, Iloilo.
Considered one of the coziest and most welcoming sporting places to play, the family-owned Centerfield Pickleball’s jolly atmosphere quickly shifted into a competitive facility as almost 80 participants flocked to the venue to vie for the championship titles.
For its first tournament, Centerfield Pickleball catered to two categories: Beginner and Advanced, made more exciting with crossover quarterfinal clashes in the respective brackets.
After two days of grueling showdowns and friendly competition, the tandem of Vince Lonie Orquinaza and Arne Jane Calfoforo prevailed in the beginner’s category.
Falling short of standing in the middle of the podium were Angelo Terrania and Charmaine Gestosani, but their valiant effort earned them first runner-up honors.
Rounding out the top three finishers in the beginner’s category were Peter John Nalasa and Joy Andrada.
Meanwhile, in the advanced category, the one-two punch of Janrei Alido and Joshua Ryan Traviña reigned supreme, edging the pairing of JB Matias and Ronnel Jaylo, who settled for first runner-up.
For Centerfield owners Binky Pitogo-Torrento and Cy Torrento, the tournament was a way to give back to the community that believed in their vision from the beginning.
“When we built Centerfield Pickleball, the community was always at the heart of our vision,” said Mrs. Torrento in an exclusive interview with the Daily Guardian.
“On our courts, players as young as five years old play alongside those in their 60s and beyond. Regardless of age, skill level, gender, or background, everyone has a place at Centerfield.”
Centerfield Pickleball started three months ago, and despite the short window since it officially opened to the public, the place already seems like home, with players flocking to the facility every day not only to play the sport but also to embrace newfound friendships and experience an electric yet lighthearted atmosphere.
Alongside the Centerfield owners are Bryan and Bib Angelo Pitogo, Ms. Binky’s brothers, who supervise the training and mentoring as accredited PGA Level 1 coaches.
More than the trophies and the results, the Centerfield Pickleball organization lauds the fast improvement of its players and is committed to helping the developing sport reach new heights.
“Here’s to stronger friendships, better players, and a growing pickleball community,” Mrs. Torrento added.
“We wanted our students and regular players to experience the excitement of competition, challenge themselves, and continue growing — not just as athletes, but as individuals who inspire and uplift others.”
