The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is with high hopes that they can finish their halted season due to the COVID-19 pandemic through staging a bubble in Subic.
Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes announced that he has already passed the much-needed documents and proposals to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Department of Health (DOH) and is only waiting for their approval.
“Hopefully ma-approve yung request natin para by third or last week of February, pwede na tayong maka-resume para na rin matapos ang championship,” said Duremdes.
However, MPBL’s request might face delays because the Philippine government only allowed professional sports organizations to stage bubble type format for the resumption of their leagues.
MPBL is not a professional league; it is listed under the amateur level despite the inter-regional setup observed, with some participating hoopers ex-pros from the PBA.
The MPBL Lakan Cup semifinals are yet to be settled between the San Juan Knights-Go for Gold and the Makati Super Crunch in the North Division and the Davao Occidental Tigers-Cocolife will be squaring off against the Basilan Steel-Jumbo Plastic in the South Division.
