BACOLOD CITY – A 44-year-old motorcycle rider died after colliding with a canter truck in Barangay Marina, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday.
The victim was identified by police as “Joe,” a resident of Barangay Bagroy in Binalbagan town.
Police Capt. Rodrigo Martinez Jr., chief of the Binalbagan Municipal Police Station, said the victim, who was not wearing a helmet, was allegedly speeding when he encroached into the opposite lane, resulting in a collision.
Martinez speculated that the victim may have dozed off due to exhaustion or lost control of his motorcycle because of his speed, causing him to swerve into the truck’s lane.
The truck was driven by a 57-year-old businessman named “Joy,” who was on his way home to Kabankalan City when the accident occurred at 7:20 p.m.
Martinez said the victim was declared dead at a hospital, while the truck driver was unharmed.
He added that both parties have reached an initial settlement.
