A 32-year-old man died after his motorcycle snagged a low-hanging utility cable early on May 23 along F. Palmares Street in Barangay Poblacion in Passi City, Iloilo.
The victim, identified only as Elmer of Barangay Jibolo, Janiuay, suffered chest injuries after being thrown from his motorcycle.
He was declared dead on arrival at Don Valerio Palmares Sr. Memorial District Hospital.
His backrider, a 15-year-old boy named LJ from Passi City, sustained lacerations but has since been released from the hospital.
Police said the two were heading to LJ’s home in Passi City from San Enrique when the accident occurred around 2:50 a.m.
As they traveled along F. Palmares Street, the motorcycle became entangled in a utility wire belonging to an internet company.
The cable reportedly caught in the motorcycle’s tire, causing Elmer to lose control and crash.
Capt. Ma. Rosario Miranda, Passi City police public information officer, said the wire was no longer active and was not connected to any household.
She added that authorities are investigating whether the internet company could be held liable for negligence.
