BACOLOD CITY — Police arrested a 42-year-old mother in Purok Magtiayon, Barangay 10, on Friday for allegedly selling illegal drugs to support the medication of her ill son.
Operatives of the City Drug Enforcement Unit arrested the suspect, identified only by the alias “Neneng,” and confiscated about 230 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of PHP 1.564 million.
Police classified the suspect as a high-value individual due to the quantity of illegal drugs recovered.
Police Lt. Richard Legada, assistant head of the CDEU, said the suspect claimed she was selling drugs to support the lifetime medication of her son, who has a heart condition.
Legada said the suspect had been under police surveillance for about a week after authorities received information about her alleged involvement in illegal drug activities in the area.
He said the illegal drugs were allegedly sourced from Barangay 2 and sold in front of the suspect’s house, using her sari-sari store and a delivery vehicle as a cover.
Legada said this was the suspect’s first arrest for a drug-related offense.
The suspect is currently detained at Police Station 2 and will face charges for the sale and possession of dangerous drugs under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
